Philosophy
First Lotus Counseling, PLLC utilizes the lotus flower as a symbol of awakening for someone who has gone through difficult times and is now thriving. It is a representation of beauty and strength. We believe that it is our function as counselors to help people find and build on their inner strength to survive and thrive during difficult times.

The counseling profession views emotional health as a developmental process that takes into account all aspects of a human being holistically. We first attempt to understand you as an individual, your story, your experience of life, your values & beliefs, and your worldview. We believe all people deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. As such, we provide a place where you are able to communicate in a safe non-judgmental environment any and all aspects of yourself that may be contributing to or affected by your current life circumstances. At First Lotus Counseling, a counselor enters into a therapeutic relationship with you as a client to facilitate your conscious awareness of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that may be contributing to high levels of emotional and mental distress.  Our goal is to help you reach your goal(s), to assist you in improving your capacity to effectively regulate the emotional experiences on your journey through life, understanding that each persons' journey is unique to him/her and must be respected and honored by the counselor with whom he/she is working.

Cultural Considerations:
First Lotus Counseling, PLLC purposefully contracts with counselors from diverse backgrounds including both male and female genders, heterosexual & homosexual orientations, counselors from different national origins or ethnicities (African, Arab, Hispanic, Canadian, Caucasian, Multiple-Heritage) and different religious/spiritual traditions (Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, and Humanist). Although all counselors are trained and encouraged to become knowledgeable, skillful, and engaged in working with individuals from any ethnic or religious background, we understand that sometimes clients feel more comfortable working with a counselor who comes from a similar tradition as their own, and we will do our best to accommodate these requests.
